Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic

Services

CDAEC provides veterinary services for pets that require emergency/urgent treatment and critical medical and/or surgical care.  Patients are triaged according to their needs at the time of entry.  Our staff is specifically trained to provide the highest level of emergency and critical care for your pet.  Individualized care is central to our practice philosophy and our goal is to provide an environment in which animals and their human companions are treated with dignity and respect.

Treatment Room

CDAEC does not provide preventive medicine and wellness care for your pet.  You should seek the advice of your family veterinarian for these important components of your pet’s well being and comfort.

What To Expect When You Arrive:

A staff member will visually assess the patient as you fill out paperwork. If your pet requires immediate help, a licenced veterinary technician will bring him/her directly to a doctor for emergency treatment. As our facility is dedicated to emergency services, we do not operate on an appointment system. You may bring your pets for emergency or urgent care needs at any time during our hours of operation. You will be seen in the order that you arrived based on the severity of your pet's condition

After The Initial Examination:

A trained emergency veterinarian will discuss the patient's condition, treatment options, prognosis and then develop an accurate estimate of cost.

If Your Pet Is Hospitalized:

We encourage you and your family to visit your pet following stabilization during their hospital stay. Intravenous and urinary catheters, ECG wires and monitor leads may preclude direct patient contact during the visit but your presence will be emotional support to your pet. Our treatment room has 48 individual patient housing areas and multiple oxygen units that facilitate constant patient monitoring. Our trained staff is right there with them minute by minute.

Discharge of Animals:

The CDAEC is open every night and 24 hours on weekends and major holidays to provide emergency treatment and critical care for pets. We close at 8:00 AM Monday through Friday. It is very important that you plan to arrive between 7-7:30 AM to pick up your pet.If needed, we will assist you to your car.

Hospitalized Patients Requiring Continued Care:defib

These animals must be transferred to a veterinary hospital of your choice prior to 8:00 AM weekdays. Medical records will be given to you and faxed to your family veterinarian so they can be prepared for continued patient care.

Clients Who Do Not Have A Veterinarian:

We will give you assistance in finding further veterinary care. Your pet's medical records will be provided to you at the time of discharge.

Patients Not Requiring Further Hospitalization:

If your pet does not require further care, he/she will be discharged to you with detailed discharge instructions and records from our staff veterinarian for follow-up care.

Patients Requiring Further Evaluation:

If your pet requires further evaluation by a veterinary specialist or requires further diagnostic evaluation such as an MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, endoscopy, etc. our doctors, in conjunction with your family veterinarian and yourself, will help to facilitate a seamless transition of care.
